The order to turn on the expensive electricity from Maritsa-Iztok 2 TPP increased the price at the last moment
An increase of 4.24% is foreseen for "Electrohold", for EVN - by 3.78%, and for customers of "Energo Pro" - by 5.43%. These prices include the prices for network services. They are effective from July 1, 2023 and will be valid for the next one-year pricing period until June 30, 2024.
The Commission's initial estimates predicted an increase of 3.63%, but the order to include the expensive electricity from Maritza-Iztok 2 TPP in the mix for the regulated market forced a last-minute price revision.
With the decision of the former Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov, 2,200,000 MWh of electricity produced by the TPP "Maritsa East 2" is included in the energy mix for household consumers - in order to prevent the company from falling into financial difficulties.
The Commission implemented regulatory mechanisms that allowed the increase in electricity prices for household consumers to be at a rate nearly four times lower than the inflation rate," the regulator said.
The statistics of the European Union show that electricity prices in our country are among the lowest compared to the countries in the whole of Europe, KEVR adds.
By setting prices for one year, the regulator creates conditions for predictability and security of the expenses of Bulgarian households.
This approach has proven itself in past periods of high price dynamics in energy markets, when household costs in the rest of the continent rose dramatically."
